Introducing sustainability with Lyfta
Half of humanity now lives in cities - around 3.5 billion people. It is expected that within the next decade almost 60% of the world's population will live in urban areas. Cities across the world occupy just 3% of the Earth's land, but account for 60-80% of its energy consumption and for more than 70% of its damaging carbon emissions. This rapid urban growth is putting pressure on fresh water supplies, waste, the living environment, public health and much more.
Sustainable development can be difficult to teach and get a handle on. However, everyone has a responsibility to understand how their actions affect people, the environment and the natural world both locally and globally. While facts and figures can give an impression of the scale of the issue humanity faces, they can sometimes leave us overwhelmed. In order to bring data to life and get a grasp of what's going on, hearing individual human stories can make a difference.
Lyfta has several human stories around the theme of sustainability. These stories can be explored through short films, 360° photos and rich media articles. Individual learning resources sit within wider contexts and can lead to further class discussion or activities. Tackling sustainability requires curriculum resources which are impressive, intentional and invite engagement from learners. Seeing where someone lives or works, and listening to how they have made changes in their own life to exist in a more sustainable way, can provide real inspiration.
Lyfta is delighted to highlight a selection of our storyworlds below which include powerful resources to introduce sustainability and can be slotted straight into lesson plans, assemblies, schemes of work and school curriculum.
