Lyfta News
Over the last 9 months we have had the pleasure of being a collaborative partner of Diverse Educators (#DiverseEd); a community and series of events which aim to signpost the great work happening in the sector to make it easier for educators to navigate the work the system needs to do on diversity, equity and inclusion in schools.

We have already had the pleasure of being involved in four brilliant virtual events with Diverse Educators, each of which has given us the chance to hear and learn from a host of impressive leaders and advocates for diversity in education, while making a contribution to the conversation ourselves.

We are delighted to be a partner organisation to #DiverseEd alongside some amazing organisations committed to the work we are doing to amplify diverse voices in education.

#DiverseEd
At Lyfta, the notion of usualising diversity has always been central to our mission. We want to give teachers a portal to transport their students to a world beyond their immediate environment through our interactive storyworlds so that they are immersed in the lives of fellow citizens. We want children to have a window into many different lives, to better understand the world around them and appreciate and celebrate the amazing diversity.
Our ongoing #MyDiverseEdPledge is to continue to work hard to show a range of human stories that are representative of human diversity, in terms of central characters and in terms of those telling/directing/producing the stories.
Since we made our pledge following the first #DiverseEd event in June we have added 15 new storyworlds to the Lyfta platform, featuring positive human stories from another 12 countries. We have also increased our efforts to diversify the contributors to the stories told on Lyfta through our NeighbourhoodDocs initiative, which supports filmmakers from around the world to share their documentary stories on our platform.
Lyfta will be part of the DiverseEd summer series so if you would like to find out more about how you can weaving diverse narratives through the curriculum using immersive human stories - please sign up here.
Lyfta are delighted to be a partner organisation to #DiverseEd alongside some amazing organisations committed to the work we are doing to amplify diverse voices in education. You can read a little more about each of them below:

Global Equality Collective (GEC)

The Global Equality Collective (GEC) is proud to be standing shoulder to shoulder with #DiverseEd. The GEC was founded on the belief that achieving equality will ensure a better, fairer, more prosperous society for all. Our work covers homes, education & business, covers all 9 characteristics of the Equality Act (2010) PLUS single parent rights and socio-economic status, and takes various forms.
We have an award-winning, open online community of over 15k, made up of change-makers, teachers, parents, leaders, authors and academics.
Our GEC Collective boasts 300 DEI subject matter experts, and we launched our "sensational" digitalised solution for education and workplaces in late 2020, the GEC App - the world's first app for diversity, equality and inclusion created by our co-founders, Nicole Ponsford and Cat Wildman. This is available now for organisations and early years to post16 educational settings.
Our 3+ years of research with the Collective has taken us all the way back to before birth, where a spectrum of imbalance lays out a map for our lives.
Our constant aim is to interrupt these maps of imbalance, from cradle to retirement, challenge norms, #SmashingStereotypes and fighting for equality for all people.

Alliance for Learning

The Alliance for Learning are delighted to become a Strategic Partner for Diverse Educators.
Our trust's underpinning value of 'community' reflects our commitment to embracing and celebrating diversity in all that we do.
We are deeply committed to increasing awareness of the issues around racial and cultural diversity in education and through the work of our Race & Diversity Hub and Diverse Educators we have worked hard over the last twelve months to organise staff training and signpost to useful resources/publications. In our trust schools a lot of work has also gone on to improve the curriculum, improve the way staff recruitment happens, to capture the voices of all our students.
We are delighted to share news of an upcoming event on 25 May where we will come together with schools and organisations to share, reflect, heal and learn what we have all been working on following the tragic death of George Flloyd. More details and booking information will be made available in the coming days via our website www.allianceforlearning.co.uk
