Tell us a bit about your role at Lyfta

I source the filmmakers and the films that comprise the beautiful short documentaries in our Storyworlds, and make sure that our commissioned films are as good as they can be. So I have loads of conversations with international doc makers about what they're working on, including at film festivals, and invite them to submit pitches for films that might work for us. And then once we've decided to commission their films, I make sure they and we understand what's expected to end up on screen, and give them notes on their cuts until the final version is perfect.

Who is your favourite person featured in a Lyfta storyworld and why?

My current favourite is Izandra, from Music is My Social Tool; a storyworld releasing later this year. She's an inspiring person, who became a top composer and violinist, from difficult circumstances, and rose up through determination, but also through have a really loving and positive attitude. Her enthusiasm is totally infectious, and she makes you feel like you can achieve more by staying true to yourself.

Which Lyfta storyworld release are you most looking forward to and why?

A Girl With Two Homes - one of our new storyworlds, coming this autumn. It's shot beautifully in two different countries, really giving a sense of what those places look like on the ground, and it has a brilliant young central character making sense of her life. I really like that we see her struggling to adapt to a new place, and we can all identify with that, but we also get a great sense of the mix of her home life and playing life, we really get to understand here. The storytelling is so efficient, it's a really immersive story where you're swept along.

What is your favourite food?

I live in Folkestone, by the sea, and our local vegan restaurant does the most incredible veganised Reubens sandwich, with their homemade seitan, pickles and sauces. It's the height of vegan cuisine, and I find it exciting how far vegan cuisine in this country has come - I've been vegan since 2008, and it wasn't this easy to get vegan food like this in the centre of a town back then!

Do you speak any other languages?

I know some Yiddish - I'm Jewish, and random Jewish words pepper your upbringing when you grow up Jewish, usually expressing dissatisfaction with something, and all done with humour. It's not really spoken in a fluent everyday sense by most people, but it's been carried down the generations as words and phrases, so it really feels like an inheritance from my Great Grandparents who came over here.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I love swimming in the sea, and do it all year round, which you get used to I promise. I love walking and discovering nature, and where I live in Kent, there's a lot if it to find. And I'm a Leeds United football fan, which keeps me occupied with ongoing torment and occasional joy.

What travel experience has had the biggest impact on you?

I always try and get the train when I travel in Europe, and am quite committed to avoiding flying, and I'm had some amazing train journeys on the continent, including getting the train all the way to Copenhagen, when the train was shunted onto a ferry, getting the amazing little train that goes up through the mountains to Locarno, and traveling to documentary events in Ukraine on their trains, which were lovely experiences, and seems like another world now.

Can you give us an interesting/fun fact about yourself to include in the blog?

I have a very special black cat called Bella, who I'm convinced can speak to me. She can definitely say some words!

Do you have a favourite word?

"Zei Gezunt" - it's a nice Yiddish phrase wishing people good health.
